Welcome to the Bates family blog! Gil and Kelly have been married since 1987 and have welcomed nineteen children. Fourteen of their children are married. They have forty grandchildren with two foster grandchildren.

Recap: A lovely Day
The family is preparing for their I love you day. The family gets their first couple which is Nathan and Ashley. (See their courtship announcement)
Gil and Kelly head out to have lunch with Nathan and Ashley. Ashley talks about how they met and what she liked and admit that they both have concerns. Kelly admits that she is proud of her son and Ashley and share what is going on.
Tori opens about Bobby right as John, Alyssa and Allie arrive to the house. Allie is about ten months old. Next to arrive is Brandon and Michaella and they are so excited to be home.
Kelly calls a family meeting to talk about the meeting. The boys have been told that they are cooking.
Next to arrive is Bobby. Tori reveals that Bobby only has two sisters while Tori has 18 brothers and sisters.
Lawson admits that it is a little weird that everyone is bringing into the house. Kelly says that it is the Bates mafia.
Mama Jane and Papa Bill arrived to the house and it was super nice to see them. Bobby gets introduce to them.
Everyone sets up for the party even the little boys. Kelly ends up with the boys since Gil doesn't normally cook.
The family passes out gifts and Erin hands out the gift which had a baby announcement. (See that announcement)
The family is surprised that Chad and Erin were expecting.
The boys are in a competition where Gil, John, Chad and Brandon vs Lawson, Nathan, Bobby and Trace. The boys served their siblings food.
Papa Bill announces that the single guys wins!

Recap: All together again!
John and Alyssa arrive to Tennessee to celebrate Valentine's day and the baby shower that Gil and Kelly are hosting for them. Alyssa only has a few more weeks in her pregnancy!

The family is getting ready to celebrate I love you day. The kids all say that it's their favorite holiday. Brandon is coming into town to celebrate the day with Michaella.
Michaella hopes that it's her last Valentine's day as a single woman but if it is not then she will be happy to celebrate another one!
Update: Brandon and Michaella are engaged and planing an August 15th wedding
Gil and Kelly have their 19 kids gather in the living room for a meeting. Four older men surprise Whitney . Zach had set it up for her to get a rose and card along with two songs. Whitney is amazed by her husband.
Kelly reveals all of her kids have seen their father being thoughtful during their growing up and Zach wants to carry on that for Whitney.
Gil and Kelly invited Zach, Whitney, Erin, Chad, John, Alyssa, Michaella and Brandon on a date to the Japanese restaurant where the chef cooks their food in front of them and gives them entertainment as well.
The family draws names for the gift exchange and the kids encourage their kids to focus on what they will give and not what they will get. The family spends about 25 dollars each.
Gil and Kelly take their younger kids to go shopping and Lawson knows that his father starts sweating like crazy. Gil goes through the gifts and pulls the knick knacks that he thinks that the kids don't need.
At the house, the family is getting everything ready. Kelly reveals that the only thing that they ever agree on is to have more kids.
Lawson and Nathan work on the pinata and get it ready for the big day. All of the family puts on their nicest clothing and gets ready for dinner where they get their presents.
The kids are happy when Gil gets a new pair of jeans from his pal. Tori reveals that it's been a long time that they have been trying to get their dad's jeans looking that good.
Brandon and Michaella revealed their big surprise for the family and it's a 3-d family tree with all the family members photos on it.
The next day, Kelly heads to the grocery store to get some food for Alyssa's baby shower. There are many games at the baby shower and one of the games are matching the prices for the baby supplies and they end up in a tie.
Alyssa reveals that her family did amazing job and John reveals that people were so generous and thoughtful.
"I have the greatest life of everybody I know," says Gil.
At the end of the baby shower, Brandon pulls Gil aside to plan a meeting with Brandon's parents to talk about his relationship with Michaella.

Gill and Kelly Jo Bates On How They Fell In Love
written by Gil and Kelly BatesIf you had asked us 31 years ago, when we met in Anderson, South Carolina, what the future would hold for us, we could have in no way imagined the joy we are getting to experience now.
We met at Anderson Junior College (Currently Anderson University) in 1984. We were first introduced by a friend, but really began to form a friendship after we joined a campus ministry team that traveled to churches to sing, testify, and preach. Before long, glances were being exchanged and admiration was growing. It was in chemistry class that sparks began to fly. I was the chemistry lab assistant, so Gil cunningly decided to ask for some extra tutoring after class. I was certainly attracted to his humor and outgoing personality, but most of all, I was fascinated by his desire to love and serve God.
We began dating seriously in the summer of 1986 before transferring to Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. By Christmas the following year, we stood before an altar exchanging wedding vows and committing our lives to one another.
Little did we know that 27 years later we would have 19 children! We have a sign hanging in our house that reads, "It all began when two people fell in love." That love has deepened over the years, and this Valentines Day we are reminded of the treasure we have in our relationships: with each other, with our children, with our friends, and with The Lord.
May this holiday be a time to celebrate and show gratitude for the special people in our lives!

Welcome February!
This months, the family celebrates four birthdays on two different days. They also celebrate Valentine's day. It's also John and Alyssa's first Valentine's day as husband and wife. Bradley celebrates his first Valentine's day along with being four months old. Chad and Erin will have pregnancy updates along with John and Alyssa!
