Gil and Kelly now have twelve Bates weddings in the books. 
The first wedding took place in November 2013 and the most recent one took place in October 2023.
Welcome to the Bates family blog! Gil and Kelly have been married since 1987 and have nineteen children. Twelve of the children are married. They have thirty-five grandchildren with three on the way. They have two foster grandchildren.

Esther finds her dress
Esther Keyes is one step closer to becoming Esther Bates.
Esther announced that they are getting married in the fall. On July 8th, she was joined by two of Nathan's sisters, his mother, Esther's sister and a family friend.

May Recap
It's time for our May recap and this month we had a big month on the blog.
The Bates family celebrated three birthdays (Carson, Warden and Erin). The family also celebrated two wedding anniversaries (Stewarts and the Websters). The family also announced the engagement of Esther Keyes and Nathan Bates.
The Bates moms celebrated Mother's Day.

Recap: Smitten in the Smokies
Travis comes to Tennessee for Katie's birthday. Travis rveals that Katie loves to remind him that she is older than him by five months. He adds that she loves to say that I love older women. When he arrives to the house, he surprises her with a new dress and plans for a dinner date. When it comes to having chaperones, Katie and Travis choses Addallee and Ellie since they have a limited section.
Whitney and Carlin head to pick up their key for their storefront in Rocky Top. Whitney and Carlin make plans for their store with Zach and Chad. The girls are concerend that they will grow out of this space quickly like they grew out of the warehouse in Zach and Whitney's backyard.
Gil and Kelly take Lawson, Katie, Travis and the younger kids to Gatlinburg. They head up to take ziplines however Judson, Jeb and Callie do not meet the weight requirement and are unable to take the ziplines. Kelly, Katie and Travis take the three to do gem-mining. Katie asks if there is a ring in there since she thinks that Travis wants one.
Callie reveals that they all thought that there was going to be a ring for Katie in one of them. Jeb and Callie both agree that would have been a perfect proposal plan. Travis reveals that he still has a year and half left of school but Katie thinks that he might propose sooner than that.
Gil reveals that he is trying to think the word engagement is something that he is going to pretend is down the road so they are going to wait and see. He just prays that it's a long time down the road. He adds that no one has talked to him yet.

Recap: The Bates Get Candid
During Tonight's episode, the family members are sitting down with Matt Hightower to answer questions about how it's like film Bringing Up Bates.
The parents of 19 children are going first. Gil and Kelly say that if they are watching the show, Gil will be in tears since it's tender to them now that they have five children married and the other children grow up fast. Gil and Kelly know that one day they will be sitting in an empty house. Gil adds that he doesn't know if the house will ever be empty since they haven't had a boy married off in three years.
Kelly reveals that if she has a gloomy day then she calls one of the kids to talk. Kelly says that it's a goal for the show since they are in this together during the good and the bad times.
What is the couple's secret about having a close-knit family? They reveal that it's praying, playing and laughing together is their secret.
The next group (Zach and Whitney, Erin and Chad, Tori and Bobby) is on deck to answer the question. Matt asked what is it like to have small children who have been on reality TV for their entire lives?
Erin answers that Carson freezes up even through he is used to the camera being there three days a week. She adds that her son doesn't act like himself yet. Whitney reveals that her daughter doesn't know what to think about it and just stands behind the cameras.
The last ones to join the fun is Lawson, Carlin, Josie and Katie are the next ones to be question. Matt asked the group what it is like to live life with a camera in front of them.
Lawson reveals that it's been hard to have a camera in his face however for the youngest three little ones (Jeb, Judson and Callie) let loose on the camera.
Do the family watch all the shows? The older ones admit that they don't watch the show since they are too critical of themselves. Kelly approves the episodes and often gives them a heads up so they can watch the show.
Carlin is asked when she expects to get married and she says that she will be married within the next year.
Matt gets asked who is his favorite? He responds his favorite is all the family since he loves them all. The family and crew have become like family.

9 Bates Updates!
The Bates family have been quite busy that we thought that it would be wonderful to share a few things of what they have been up to.
Zach and Whitney are working on their house. As their latest update on Facebook, they just chose the cabinets and counter-tops for their new home.
Chad and Erin are a little over three months away from welcoming their third child, a daughter, in late April 2018. John and Alyssa are three months away from welcoming their third child, in early April 2018. It will be interesting to see if they have the girls close together.
Trace shared on Instagram that he just started a new semester at Crown College yesterday. Katie is in her last semester of high school and just started at Crown College.
Josie recently graduated cosmetology school last semester and passed her licensing exam. She had a job interview and is waiting to hear back.
Bobby and Tori are living in apartment while Tori finishes up her classes in May. We are so excited to share that Bobby and Tori are moving to Nashville. Bobby has gotten a job at Bible Baptist while Tori hopes to use her teaching degree at a local Christian school. She just started student teaching in a first grade classroom on Monday.
Lawson has been working on his music for 4-5 days per week. He and Nathan are currently on a mission trip.
Nathan spends his time working with his father in the tree business and teaching flying lessons. He also has been doing mission trip.

Recap: Road Trip Romance
Carlin and Katie are heading three hours to Nashville to visit Carlin's special friend, Evan Stewart. Carlin reveals that the reason that she chose Katie to come with her is because she wanted to hang since Carlin is always at school.
Evan takes the girls to his sister's house. Evan's sister is currently expecting her second child. Did you know that Evan has four sisters and one brother.
Daniel plays the piano as Carlin and Evan sang a duet together that Evan wrote. The song is about loving again when your heart has been broken. Carlin reveals that she can relate to the song but is nervous to sing in front of his family. Evan's family sings as a family gospel group.
Evan takes the girls and two of his siblings to Rocketown, downtown Nasvhille, to learn about skateboarding. Katie chooses to sit out and be entertained. She is soon joined by Carlin after Carlin twists her ankle. Carlin thinks that it's the best sport ever if you get joy of seeing people fall.
Katie teases her sister that she should have listened to her sister.
Later, Carlin and Katie joined in on a birthday party for Evan's family at his other sister's house. Evan's parents decides that it's time to sit them down and find out about their relationship. Evan reveals that he cares about Carlin more than any other girl but is anxious to see what the Lord does.
Denese thinks that the relationship is going great. She knows that the couple is taking it slow and hope that it will keep growing. She thinks that they might marry one day but they will just see.
Back home, it's time for driving lesson for Jackson. Zach, Whitney and Warden are going with them since Jackson called Zach to see if they could go driving. Zach suggest that they take Lawson's car and just as they are about to go, Lawson runs out to join them.
Jackson has done some driving before around the family's property. He is pretty much a smooth driver. Zach says that he is proud of his brother.
