Eight engagement posts

Fresh off the news of Katie and Travis's engagement announcement, we thought that it would be wonderful to recap the Bates engagement announcements. 

Erin was the first one to get engaged to Chad Paine on August 5, 2013. We shared the special news on October 7, 2013 on this post. 

Zach and Whitney would later get engaged on September 12, 2013. We also share the special news on October 7, 2013

John and Alyssa would get engaged on January 16, 2014.

Brandon and Michaella were the fourth ones to get engaged on April 15, 2015.

Kelton and Josie got engaged on June 19, 2018 nearly three years after Brandon and Michaella.

Carlin and Evan got engaged in September 2018 just three months after her sister Josie got engaged

Bobby and Tori got engaged in September 2017. 

Travis and Katie are the newest ones to get engaged and it will be intersenting to see who gets engaged next. Will it be Lawson or Nathan?

As the Bates family are expecting their ninth grandchild due within the next month, we decided to do a throwback on Chad and Erin's pregnancy announcement.

Recap: Tough Decisions and Large Ambitions

Zach and Whitney get ready for Chad and Erin for dinner. Bradley melts his aunt's heart when he gives Carson a small kiss.  Whitney and Erin talk about having girls and how the boys will react with it. Zach asked if Chad can make one for Bradley. Bradley gives his cousin a hug. Zach gives Bradley a taste of cold whip.

While Gil and Kelly talk about a birthday party for one of the boys, Nathan comes into talk to Gil and Kelly about his courtship. Click here to see the status of their relationship.

Lawson heads to work on his music career. Lawson gets advice on his music. Lawson talks about his upcoming tour

The boys head to cut down some wood to keep the cost down. Nathan reveals that his father tries to include the little boys in a lot of what they do. The girls reveal that it is mostly the boys together. He gives the glasses to Jeb.

Nathan and Lawson talk about what they went through as child. The boys get into a competition. Lawson helps Jeb with his cutting wood. When Gil brings the truck and runs over Judson's bike.
Judson sees his bike and starts to get upset. Gil gives his son a hug and promises to replace it which he does. Judson is happy again.

26 weeks pregnant

It is time for a new pregnancy update! 

Just two more weeks until Chad and Erin enter their final trimester in this pregnancy. Many of you have asked how Erin's pregnancy is going and we can tell you that she has had an easy pregnancy so far.

Chad and Erin talk about baby #2

Erin talks about her desire to give Carson a baby brother or baby sister so Carson can have someone to play with.

Erin (smiling): "Every time I see Carson, I'm like, 'He needs a brother.'"
Chad (jokingly, while cuddling his son): "You know you've gotta picture him in a little room, all by himself, sitting there with blocks and just looking at the blocks."
Erin (playfully): "Oh honey, stop."
Chad (laughing): Nobody to fight with, nobody to steal his blocks. You know, he's gotta have somebody.
Erin (very serious): "He's so cute, but, before we have any other baby, we've gotta sleep, just a little bit. We've gotta learn how to be parents. It's a little harder than I thought." 

Recap: Doctor's orders

Gil and Kelly call Michaella over to sit down to talk about the budget of the wedding. Gil and Kelly have set a budget for each of their girls. They are giving their oldest daughter the sum of the money. Brandon and Michaella know that if they go over it then they have to pay for it.
Kelly has two sisters, Kay and Kim, that run a baker and flower shop that will help keep the cost down.
Kelly and Michaella get Erin and Whitney to go find a church that will host about 800 people and available for the day that they had picked which is August 15th. The couple has chose pink and brown for their wedding colors and they need to look good inside the church.
The first church, that they look at, doesn't work with the colors. Michaella really likes the second church but Erin is not sure about the room. Kelly sends videos to Brandon so he can be part of the wedding planning.
Michaella reveals that her family is very opinionated and it is sometimes helpful but her list of important things are not the same as theirs.
Sadly, the second church can not be available for the date that the couple have picked. Michaella knows that they can't change their wedding date and so she is nervous about finding the right church.
The final church is Wallace Memorial and all the girls love it. The church has a youth locked in on the date that they need to the church but they said that they will figure out if they can work around it. The family knows that God will make it work if it's meant to be.
Aunt Kay comes over to have the little ones to decorate a cake. The kids enjoy eating the icing.
Before Kay knows it, the kids start a food fight. Her glasses are cover with pink icing and she can't see anymore.
    "This was a very successful thing," says Kay. "It was very messy, but messy can be fun. You need to teach kids how to have fun in the kitchen and not make it a chore."
Meanwhile at Chad and Erin's house, Erin wakes up with contractions and so they head to the hospital where the doctors give Erin medicine to stop it. They give the baby a shot so his lungs will be ready in case he has to be born early.
Erin's doctor decided that they need to make weekly appointments and ultrasounds to make sure that he is okay. Erin knows that it's scary and they want to make sure that he is okay.

Erin has been experiencing early contractions, so she and Chad rush to their doctor, to find out what’s wrong. Meanwhile, Michael and Brandon discover how stressful it can be to plan a wedding long distance via video chat.

Recap: High Risk, High Hopes

Chad and Erin head to Dr. Vic to make sure that Carson is doing fine. Chad and Erin bring up that someone mention to her doctor about stillbirth and Dr Vic explains that they will keep a special watch on Carson.
Gil knows that the only thing that they can do is pray which is hard for them. While Erin knows that everything that they are doing is to make sure that they have a healthy baby.
The younger kids decided that it's time make an underground fort. Gil and Kelly chose not to have a tv for many years so their kids ended up spending a lot of time outside.
A few of the older boys (Lawson, Nathan, and Trace) took Jackson, Warden and Isaiah down to the driving range for a golf lesson. Zach thinks that it's just the blind leading the blind.
The boys return and the older ones load their airsolf guns to to take over the younger ones fort. Gil and Kelly have one rule when it comes to their airsoft wars that everyone has to wear eye protection. The rest of the family watches from the window.
Chad and Erin decided to invite Zach, Whitney and Bradley over for dinner. Tori reveals that her sister was the worst cook ever but has gotten better. Zach reveals that whenever Erin cook growing up you knew that dinner was ready when the fire alarm went off. Erin is a great chef since she married Chad.
Whitney reveals that Zach doesn't say or show much that he has a hard time with watching his sisters grow up and then get married and have kids of their own. It makes him a little sad.

Recap: Future in-Laws?

Michael and her parents are headed to Chicago to meet Brandon and his parents. Meanwhile Chad and Erin go over to the house to help with the younger ones while they are gone.
Brandon's family live in Michigan however when Brandon and Michael get married, They will live in Chicago since Brandon works there.
Gil hopes that they can have some Chicago pizza and they head over to Giordano's. Both Kelly and Michael are hoping that Brandon will propose soon while Gil is a little more laid back. Kelly knows that Brandon has been thinking about engagement since it's been on theirs.
The couples head to an art shop where they paint a piece of potty.
During lunch, Brandon decides to chat with Gil to get his permission to asked Michael to marry him. Brandon gives Gil the date and Gil won't tell Kelly because she will give it away to Michael.
During their meal, Kelly pulls out the calendar to see when Brandon wants to pick a date for the wedding and he jokes that he is planning one on Valentine's day 2015.
Back home, Chad and Erin have the kids prepare to redo Gil and Kelly's room as a surprise. Chad and the boys work on refinishing the furniture while the girls decorate. The kids are surprised to find that Erin wants them to use their food to make animals. Their dad doesn't like to waste food and the kids know that he would not approve this choice.
Gil and Kelly return home to find their room redecorated and love it. Gil sits the family down to talk about the special talk that he had with Brandon but won't reveal anything.

Carson is three days old and is coming home for the first time.

Chad and Erin are so excited for their first night with him at home.

Chad and Erin: 18 months later

It's hard to think that Chad and Erin got married 18 months ago today. It's really nice to think that they are so in love with each other. They are expecting their first child due in about a month.

Just eight more weeks until baby Carson arrives! We are super excited for him to be here. Now we are hoping that he stays in there until the pregnancy is consider to be full term which is 37 weeks which will be in middle of May.

We have one more month or more until baby Carson arrives. We are super excited about this new journey that Chad and Erin are about to start. Erin is still doing everything that her doctor wanted her to do.
