We actually found out in one of the clips where John mentioned that she had a boyfriend twice and then confirmed on April 30, 2016

Welcome to the Bates family blog! Gil and Kelly have been married since 1987 and have welcomed nineteen children. Twelve of their children are married with two children engaged to be married. They have forty grandchildren with two foster grandchildren.
